Bird Flu in Russia Bird flu has spread west to the Ural mountains region of Chelyabinsk, Agence France-Presse reported officials as indicating, making this the sixth area in Russia to be impacted by the bird flu plague.

Sixty chickens died from Bird flu over this weekend in the village called Oktyabrskoye, the area's primary deputy governor, Andrei Gasilov, went on record as indicating by the Interfax news agency.

Russia's bird flu veterinary operations division verified the bird flu epidemic, however it has yet to be conclusively determined whether or not the type of the bird flu virus being investigated was of the variety which has the potential to be spread to human beings.

Chelyabinsk is the sixth area impacted by the bird flu. Each of the others affected by the bird flu, including: Kurgan, Altai, Tyumen, Omsk, Novosibirsk, lie further to eastward in the Siberian region.

Russia has recently initiated mass poultry investigations in the impacted areas following instances of the reported avian flu disease which were first discovered on July 10.
